The best version is still the original taken from the movie soundtrack by Dimitri Tiomkin.

So good. The Brothers Four earned their success with their earlier recording of it as they gave a very well-rooted rendition. Still, slower and perhaps less authentic as this version is, I find its pace more enduring.Someone might confirm for me the name of the instrument that introduces the melody here and whether, as I seem to recall, Mr. Conniff is the performer.

Notwithstaniding the opinions of others I like this slow version of the song. I recall I saw the film long ago and since a child had read a lot about the Alamo in my history textbook. It was the sacrifice of those valiant men in the Alamo what allowed Sam Houston to train the army that later defeated Santa Anna at San Jacinto.

A very good movie theme and very well interpreted here. Ray Conniff was very good and anything he played or directed sounds good. I was 14 when I saw the film when it was released and liked the theme very much. And it is very appropriate now that it is summer and the leaves of the trees and shrubs are all green indeed. Very nice to hear and enjoy.
